9402-200 Power Supply Replacement

Equipment Required

  1. 7mm Hex Driver (most screws will be 7mm)
  2. 1/16 Allen Wrench (for mainboard screws)
  3. CR2450 Battery (for replacement of mainboard battery)
  4. Black Permanent Marker (to circle location of screws removed)
  5. Power tool to loosen screws (use where you can)
  6. Air compressor (to blast out dust & debris)
  7. Anti-static mat
  8. AS/400 Power Supply (Model 9402-200 P/N 74G9793)

Remove the Covers

This step requires 15-45 minutes

  1. Power down system if it isn't already down
  2. Unplug power cable
  3. Mark the location of cables and remove all cable attachments in the rear of the AS/400
    1. you can always make a chart of plug-in locations if you don't think you'll remember!
  4. Take the AS/400 to a location where you can blast it out with an Air Compressor
  5. Remove the front cover
  6. Loosen but don't remove the screws holding on the top panel. There should be one in the front and 1 in the back.
  7. Remove the black top panel
  8. Remove the 2 black side panels. Each side is held on by 2 screws located on the top of the AS/400
  9. Remove the left and right side metal panels. Each one will have multiple screws to remove

Clean the AS/400 (Optional)

This step requires 20-40 minutes

  1. Find a location to clean out the system.
  2. Use the air compressor to clean out the AS/400.

Remove the Power Supply

This operation will require 45 minutes - 2 hours

  1. Remove all the cages, adaptors and plug-in units located in the rear of the AS/400. Note where they each go as you must return them to the same location when you finish.
  2. Mark each of the drives located in the front of the AS/400. You can mark them 1,2,3,4,etc. You must note the exact slot location of each drive!
  3. Remove all Main Storage units (1-4) from the bottom front of the system. You must unplug them.
    YOU MUST MARK AND REMEMBER WHERE EACH DRIVE IS LOCATED! FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN A SCRATCH INSTALL OF THE OPERATING SYSTEM REQUIRING AN ADDITIONAL 1-2 DAYS LABOR!
  4. Set the drives in a marked and safe location preferably on an anti-static mat
  5. Count and unplug each the cables to the 1st mainboard (green card in the middle). Write the plug count on a sheet of paper. The system will not operate later unless each cable is reattached exactly as it was before.
  6. Remove the 1st mainboard (green card)
  7. Count and unplug each the cables to the 2nd mainboard (green card located against the back plate ). Write the plug count on a sheet of paper. The system will not operate later unless each cable is reattached exactly as it was before.
  8. Remove the rear mainboard (green card located against the back plate).
  9. Before continuing replace the CR2450 battery located on the 2nd Green Mainboard. Make sure you have the correct side down!
  10. Remove the black drive cage (located in the bottom front of the AS/400).
  11. Remove the front power supply brace. There will be 2 screws located in the front of the AS/400 holding it in.
  12. Remove the 2 base screws holding the power supply on (both are located at the bottom front of the AS/400.
  13. Remove & Replace the power supply from the AS/400
