IBM 5494 Support

This tip applies to the following product(s):

5494 - -ALL-

Description: When the 5494 first powers on after the transition to the year 2000, the power-on self-test (POST) may detect an invalid date and post an error (002-04 123) that instructs the operator to set the date. The following steps will correct this error:
  • Press Enter on the operator keypad. This will indicate that the 5494 operator has been notified of the error. The display will change to (002-05 0).
  • Type 1 and then press Enter to indicate that the error should be ignored, the 5494 will start loading for normal operations.
  • The 5494 will complete loading, the ready light will appear and the 5494 can be used for normal operations.
  • On the keypad press Req, Type 213 and press Enter, to access the set date function.
  • The display will show the 5494 date. For example, if the 5494 date is January 3, 2000, the display would show (213-01|| 00-01-03)
  • If the 5494 is using release 3.2 microcode and the date is correct, press Esc, no further steps are needed.

For 5494 microcode releases prior to release 3.2, the date must always be entered. For 5494 microcode release 3.2, the date needs to be entered only if 5494 date is incorrect.
  • Type the correct date, for example, if the correct date is January 3, 2000, type 0 0 0 1 0 3, and then press Enter.

See "Is the 5494 Year 2000 ready?" document found in the Year 2000 section of Tech Tips
for additional Year 2000 information.
