Ithaca PcOS Series 50 Printer

The Ithaca Series 50 Printer is a stand-alone, 40-column, high speed impact printer used for customer cash receipts.

Mfg Reported Reliability

  • Mean time between failure (except printhead): 25,000 hours, 20 million lines
  • Printhead life: 200 million characters
  • Automatic cutter life: 1 million cuts
  • Automatic cutter mean time between failure: 500,000 cuts
  • Mean time to repair: 15 minutes

Printer Test

  • Turn the printer off
  • Press and hold the LF (Line Feed) button while turning the printer on.

    When the printer starts printing, let go the the LF button. The complete character set is printed in about 10 seconds, then repeats.

  • Press the SEL (Select) button to stop the test

    The SEL (Select) light goes on indicating the printer is now on-line.

  • Examine the printout and example is shown below

Cash Drawer

RJ11 Connector

  • Pin 1 Drawer 2 Drive Signal (+24V 150 ms) (Plus Models only). Not used on standard and turbo models
  • Pin 2 Ground
  • Pin 3 Drawer 1 Drive Signal (+24V 150 ms)
  • Pin 4 Drawer 1 Status Switch Input (Optional)
  • Pin 5 Ground
  • Pin 6 Drawer 2 Status Switch (Plus Models Only). Not used on standard and turbo models.

BNC Connector

  • Shell Ground
  • Center Wire Drawer drive signal (+24V 150 ms)

RS-232C

  • RS-232C shield cables can be no longer than 50 feet long. Use the following connectors: DB-25 plug (or equivalent) or DB-C2-J9 (or equivalent) connector shell
  • Max transmission of 19.2 baud | 2K baud | Ready/Busy or XON/XOFF Protocol
  • Pin 1 Protective ground PG
  • Pin 2 Transmit data (XON/XOFF protocol) TD
  • Pin 3 Receive data (to printer) RD
  • Pin 4 Request to send (from printer) RTS
  • Pin 6 Data Set Ready (to printer) DSR
  • Pin 7 Signal ground SG
  • Pin 11 Supervisory Send Data (from printer) SSD
  • Pin 13 Signal Ground SG
  • Pin 20 Data Terminal Ready (from printer) DTR
