Screens won't connect

  • Check the sessions
    • all screens won't connect that means there may be a cable problem or a disconnect problem
    • a single screen that doesn't connect indicates the network is fine but the session may need to be varied off/on
      WRKCFGSTS *DEV, Option 2 (Vary off)
  • Check the browser (internet explorer) does it show a web page?
    • No = cable or network problem
    • Yes = session configuration or screens need to be varied off/on
      WRKCFGSTS *DEV, Option 2 (Vary off)
  • Check the ip address
    • 169.~ = no cable connection
    • Any other address when refreshed indicates network connection. Check the screens and see if they need to be varied off then on
      WRKCFGSTS *DEV, Option 2 (Vary off)

How to Vary off/on a screen

  • Type the following on a command line:
    WRKCFGSTS *DEV
    then press ENTER or
    press ESCAPE and take the option to work with configuration status

  • Type a '2' (Vary off) beside the screen(s) you want to shut down then press ENTER

  • Next type a '1' (Vary on) beside the screen(s) you want to reconnect then press ENTER

  • Now restart the workstation and see if the screens connect
